With regards to blog posting, I usually follow a simple procedure when creating new content for my readers.

Goals.
Before starting an article you should have a clear focus on what you want to achieve with the post. Perhaps you want backlinks? or perhaps you want it to be on the front page of Digg? If so than you'll want to make it very newsworthy and easily syndicated. Either way you should always have a goal to work towards.

Questions.
Do you have permission to use those images? Is it on topic? Will your readers value your post? All of these questions should be asked before commencing. There's no point waisting the readers, or your time with something that could have been added to something else. Each post you make should be gold, never write, just to write.

Ingredients.
Before starting that new post, write down what you'll need in order to create your masterpiece. Images, sources, intelligence, software, and of course.. bandwidth. There's nothing worse than hitting front page of Digg, or having a "guru" recommend you to their newsletter and your server busts after 50 visitors. Always be prepared for an article to blow up in popularity.

Measure twice cut once.
Before hitting the publish button, always check your spellings, grammar, and flow. Just like any story it should be gripping with a beginning , middle, and an end. also.. give the reader exactly what it said on the title without added fluff.

Follow the above structure and each article you write will be great for the targeted reader.
